    If you’re looking for a magical wedding venue, nestled within the authentic beauty of the New England countryside, look no further.


    Our 300-year-old Inn offers charm and character, while also providing everything you could wish for to make your day truly special and unique.


    Choose to be married at the Martha-Mary Chapel, a nondenominational space located just beyond the Inn on The Wayside Inn property. Framed by majestic white pines at the top of a grassy knoll, our quintessential New England white-clapboard chapel is picture-perfect for your special day. An elegant Waterford crystal chandelier gracefully hangs above classic pews where up to 150 friends and family watch as you declare your vows.


    Following your ceremony, consider traveling to your reception by our romantic horse and surrey. But before you do, make sure you take advantage of the iconic Grist Mill located just across from the chapel. Wander over with your nearest and dearest where you can use the backdrop of the Mill and its cascading waterfall for your photos, perfect in any of the distinct New England seasons.


    As you gather again with family and friends, enjoy your champagne and cocktails in the exquisite gardens that sit between the Inn and the Events Tent. Then continue your celebration at the reception space of your choice. For a larger wedding, you might look to the grand canopy tent set just yards from the Inn, lined with chandeliers, and with enough space for up to 110 friends and family. This space has everything you need to kick off your evening celebrations, including a full bar, private bathrooms, and a large dance floor. 


    For a more intimate wedding, you may consider holding your reception within the Inn itself. Our large dining room comfortably accommodates up to 150 guests as well as musicians or a DJ, and a dance floor to sweep you off your feet and into the night.

    • Do you offer any other extra services like the horse and surrey?
      • The Horse and Surrey: This is a wonderful way for the couple to get around the property and offers a great photo opportunity as well. (Subject to availability)
      • Longfellow Memorial Gardens: Our beautiful formal English Garden is an option for Cocktail Hour or Ceremonies and is a perfect setting for your wedding photographs. For ceremonies in the garden, please discuss details with our Function Office.
    • Where can wedding photos be taken on the property?

      We are pleased to offer our wedding customers complimentary use of our majestic locations for wedding photos (subject to availability) including our Grist Mill, Chapel, Fields, and Longfellow Memorial Gardens.

    • Where can my guests stay overnight? Are there enough rooms at the Inn?

      There are 10 overnight guest rooms available in Longfellow’s Wayside Inn. Be sure to book well in advance.

    • Are the Grist Mill, Chapel, Inn, and Tent all within walking distance?

      Yes. There is also parking near each venue for those who prefer not to walk.

    • Is there a bar inside the Inn for my guests to use?

      The Old Bar can be reserved for exclusive use for weddings. Additionally, our function department can arrange for a bar to be set up throughout the property.

    • Do you have a list of preferred vendors?

      Although The Wayside Inn cannot endorse any particular vendor, our Function Office can provide a list of frequent vendors.

    • Can wedding ceremonies be conducted at locations other than the Chapel?

      By special arrangement, wedding ceremonies can be conducted at our Grist Mill, Chapel, Fields, and Longfellow Memorial Gardens. Please discuss details with our Function Office.

    • What are my options for wedding favors?

      Visit our gift shop for a wide variety of branded items and other gifts for your guests and wedding party to remember your special day.

    • Can the Inn provide a Justice of the Peace to conduct a ceremony?

      Our Innkeeper is a licensed Justice of the Peace. Please check with the front desk for more information.

    • How do I book The Martha-Mary Chapel?

      The Martha-Mary Chapel is booked by the Function Office at the Inn. Call 1.978.443.1776 option 2.

    • How much does it cost to rent the Chapel for a wedding ceremony?

      Generally $1,000/hour

    • Is there a piano or organ in the Chapel?

      Yes there is an organ in the chapel.

    • How many guests does the Chapel hold?

      The Chapel comfortably seats 150 people: 120 on the first floor and 30 in the balcony.

    • ‍Is the Chapel heated and does it have air conditioning?

      Yes, the Chapel is heated and it does have air conditioning.

    • ‍Can a Catholic priest perform a ceremony in the Martha-Mary Chapel?

      Although Catholic marriages must be performed by Catholic priests in a Catholic church, there are circumstances where Catholics may marry in other venues. Please consult with your priest for advice.

    • ‍Can we take pictures in the Chapel?

      Of course. Please follow guidelines and ensure that your photographer has a permit from The Wayside Inn.

    • ‍Can we decorate the Chapel?

      Yes, with some restrictions the Chapel can be decorated. Please refer the guidelines provided in our wedding package.

    • Is there space for a musician/DJ inside the Chapel?

      Yes, either on the balcony or by the altar.

    Event Tent

    • When are tent weddings available?

      Tent weddings are available from mid-May through mid-October.

    • Is the tent climate controlled?

      Air conditioning is available at an additional cost. Heat is provided in the tent, during the cooler months, at no additional cost and at management’s discretion.

    • ‍How many people can the tent accommodate?

      We accommodate tent weddings up to 200 seated guests.

    • My wedding might have more guests than will fit in the tent, can you accommodate them?

      By special arrangement and at additional cost, an extension can be added to the existing tent.

    • Does the tent have restroom facilities?

      Tent rentals include use of a luxury restroom trailer directly adjacent to the tent. Accessible restrooms are with a short distance away at the Inn.
